Verandering in wetgeving nodig

The World Bioprotection Forum heeft een interessant white paper gepubliceerd. De kern hiervan is verandering van de wetgeving voor de goedkeuring en toelating van biocontrol producten.

Op dit moment worden biocontrol producten nog hetzelfde beoordeeld als chemische gewasbescherming. Met als effect dat het minimaal 8 jaar duurt voordat er een gezond alternatief voor boeren en telers op de markt verschijnt. Dit moet en kan anders. In the UK willen ze stappen maken.

“It is absolutely vital that regulators across the world finally accept and reflect the fact that biocontrol solutions are not conventional chemical pesticides, and their evaluation processes need to be adapted to separate biologicals and chemicals. In our discussions with DEFRA to date, they have been extremely positive about the need for change, and open to discussions that we hope will lead to a world-leading biopesticide/bioprotectant regulatory system.”
